Daniel Negreanu ends a two-year drought by winning SHRB for $3.3 million – OKBET Poker News

The previous two years, according to Daniel Negreanu, have been the worst cold spell of his illustrious 30-year career. But the Poker Hall of Famer’s fortunes changed overnight when “Kid Poker” beat Nick Petrangelo heads-up for $3.3 million in the 2022 $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl.

According to The Hendon Mob, the triumph inside the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas marks Negreanu’s second-largest live cash and his first SHRB ring after becoming runner-up in the 2018 SHRB for $3 million.

“I had a large group of friends arrive, and I punted because I wanted to hang out with them.” “In a winner’s interview, Negreanu told PokerGO’s Jeff Platt. “And this year, I told everyone, ‘Don’t come…’ Allow me to win this and I’ll return home, open a bottle of champaign, and then we’ll go to the hockey game tomorrow. And simply let me do what I do.'”

Negreanu’s Fortunes Have Turned Around

The majority of poker enthusiasts are undoubtedly aware that Negreanu hasn’t had the best few years. Negreanu completed the 2022 World Series of Poker in the red by $1.1 million earlier this summer, and for the first time in years, he was not a candidate for Player of the Year.

When Seth Davies’ jacks shattered Negreanu’s pocket aces in a $50,000 Poker Masters tournament, Negreanu bubbled in seventh place.

After winning, he said, “I detest complaining about poor luck. “The worst, that. No one wants to hear it. When I go home, my wife experiences what it’s like. When you think you’re performing well but the results are lacking, it’s quite upsetting. Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, we must play you’re way, you hear the internet saying. I tell you what. I just played the game my way, and it felt fantastic.”

YO @RadioAmanda

I DID IT!!!!

I love you soooo much. Thanks for being there for me always through the rough patch last couple years.

You always believed in me and it makes a difference! ❤️❤️❤️ https://t.co/TL176UW6mh

Negreanu said that he “felt incredibly confident heading into this one, (playing) deep-stacked No-Limit Hold’em” and that he had tried out some new playing techniques at Poker Masters despite the multi-year dry spell.

There is still room for improvement in poker strategy, he noted. “Especially 100 (large blinds) deep deep stacked poker, with the limping approach that nobody studies for. And I thought, “I don’t believe they’re going to be as prepared as I am,” knowing that coming into this. It’s what I’ve done for thirty years. SHRB Response

Only 24 players entered the $300,000 buy-in tournament, which resulted in a $7.2 million prize pool with only four places paid.

Most of the typical high roller suspects were there, including Sean Winter, who had just won the Poker Masters Championship at the same location earlier this week, David Peters, Michael Addamo, Isaac Haxton, Stephen Chidwick, and others.

The notorious Bryn Kenney was eliminated early on Day 1 after flopping a set of aces only to be outdrawn by Negreanu’s running quad threes, a crushing defeat for the alleged poker cheater.

Orpen Kisacikoglu of Turkey entered the five-handed final table with the short stack and exited on the money bubble before all-time money leader Justin Bonomo, who upset Negreanu heads-up in the tournament in 2018, finished fourth for $720,000.

Negreanu came into the final table with a significant chip lead, which he expanded in a big hand in which he flipped the nut straight against Petrangelo’s top pair, who upgraded to trips on the river and called a massive check-raise from the eventual victor.

After defeating Andrew Lichtenberger in third place with an ace-six that dominated “LuckyChewy’s” king-six, Negreanu entered heads-up play against Petrangelo with a large chip lead and gradually chipped away at the Massachusetts pro, who had $24.6 million in Hendon Mob earnings coming into the event.

In the last hand, Negreanu pushed all in with queen-seven and Petrangelo called with king-five. The flop delivered Negreanu a pair and flush draw, leaving Petrangelo drawing almost dead, and he couldn’t suck out when the turn and river bricked off, forcing him to settle for a $2 million second-place reward.
